Sound / Simulacra

John C.S. Keston and Cody McKinney present Sound / Simulacra, a monthly series which explores musical improvisation as a “faithful and intentionally distorted” representational process. Sound / Simulacra brings together some of the Twin Cities most unique voices to “recreate, distort, and create the hyperreal.”

Monthly guest artists are invited to experiment and improvise free of commercial constraints and considerations. The series seeks to brings in music that is not necessarily entwined with traditional lexicons. The vocabulary of artists who participate includes extended techniques, electro-acoustics, atonality, atemporality, and approaches to improvisation that explore new territories. Electronic music often plays a role in the form of sound synthesis, signal processing, sampling, and live coding.
